Baznas Distributes Sacrificial Meat to 6,700 Palestinian Refugees in Syria

The National Alms Agency (Baznas) distributed sacrificial meat to around 6,700 Palestinian refugees living in several camps in Idlib province, Syria, during Eid al-Adha 1447 H/2026 M, through its ‘Kurban Berkah Palestina’ (Blessed Sacrifice for Palestine) programme. The distribution was carried out in camps located in the Hazano and Sarmada areas. In Hazano, aid was delivered to Qusaniyah, Shariaa, and Qadisiyah camps, while in Sarmada, distribution took place at Sarmada Camp and Al-Omareen Camp.

Baznas Chairman Sodik Mudjahid stated that the programme represents the solidarity and concern of the Indonesian people for Palestinians who continue to face difficulties due to the prolonged conflict and humanitarian situation. ‘Through the Kurban and Sedekah Palestina programme, we want to ensure that the trust of the Indonesian people reaches our brothers and sisters in need. This sacrifice is a symbol of care, brotherhood, and moral support for refugees living in deprivation,’ he said in a statement on Tuesday (23/6).

Sodik explained that the meat distribution from 200 sheep took place on 27–29 May 2026 in the Hazano and Sarmada regions, reaching thousands of Palestinian refugees residing in Syria. He expressed hope that the distribution would bring happiness to the refugees, particularly during the Eid al-Adha celebration. He also conveyed appreciation to the Indonesian Embassy in Damascus for its assistance and support throughout the humanitarian operation.

‘We extend our thanks and appreciation to the Indonesian Embassy in Damascus for accompanying and facilitating the smooth distribution of the Kurban Berkah Palestina programme. This support is crucial in ensuring that aid from the Indonesian people is properly delivered to the beneficiaries,’ Sodik said. He added that Baznas would continue to expand its international humanitarian outreach through targeted and sustainable programmes.

Bayu Arif Ramadhan, the embassy’s Information, Social and Cultural Function officer, noted that despite being implemented in Syria for the first time, the programme received a warm welcome from both Syrian government representatives and Palestinian refugees. He revealed that the embassy team travelled more than eight hours from Damascus to Idlib, traversing difficult terrain including desert areas, to ensure the aid reached the refugees directly. He also expressed hope that the Indonesian government and people would continue to provide necessary humanitarian assistance in the future, given the difficult conditions faced by the refugees.
