The National Alms Agency (Baznas) has distributed hygiene kits and blankets to residents affected by the earthquake in Kamarora A Village, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi, to help meet the basic needs of survivors during the emergency response period. Idy Muzayyad, Baznas RI’s head of distribution, utilisation, and empowerment, said the assistance was a rapid response to the community’s limited access to essential supplies following the earthquake. “After a disaster, all access is severely limited, including fulfilling basic hygiene needs. Therefore, Baznas is here to distribute hygiene kits and blankets so that people can maintain their health and be protected from extreme weather during the emergency response period,” he said in a written statement in Jakarta on Friday. “Fulfilling basic needs is not only about food, but also ensuring people remain healthy and safe. We must anticipate the emergence of various diseases due to limited access to hygiene supplies after a disaster,” he added. Idy explained that all aid distributed by Baznas is a mandate from muzaki who have entrusted their zakat, infaq, and sadaqah to the agency. This mandate is then realised through various humanitarian programmes for communities affected by disasters. “We strive to ensure that this mandate is immediately felt by the community facing calamity. May every zakat, infaq, and sadaqah entrusted by the muzaki become a source of strength for the survivors in facing these difficult times,” he continued. “In addition to distributing logistical aid, we are also optimising humanitarian services through teams deployed at the disaster site to ensure the emergency response process runs quickly and is well-targeted,” he said. He expressed hope that the series of aid would ease the burden on survivors and accelerate the post-disaster recovery process. “We hope this assistance can help survivors maintain their health while providing comfort amidst the ongoing difficult situation,” Idy Muzayyad said. In handling the earthquake disaster in Central Sulawesi, Baznas has distributed a range of humanitarian services, including public kitchens, health services, clean water distribution, logistics distribution, water kitchens, construction of emergency mosques, distribution of hygiene kits, blankets, and psychosocial support services for survivors.
