Baznas distributes Eid al-Adha sacrificial meat to underprivileged waste pickers in Jurangmangu
The National Zakat Agency (Baznas) has distributed sacrificial meat packages to underprivileged communities in the Jurangmangu Waste Pickers’ Village, Pondok Aren, South Tangerang. Zainut Tauhid Sa’adi, Deputy Chairman of Baznas, affirmed that the agency is committed to ensuring that the sacrificial animals entrusted by the public are distributed accurately, accountably, and transparently. ‘Our commitment remains steadfast to regulatory, sharia, and national integrity standards. The sacrificial animals entrusted to Baznas are immediately converted into tangible blessings for the community through meticulous coordination with various parties, including local governments,’ Zainut stated on Friday (29 May). Zainut further praised the distribution of sacrificial animals from the President and Vice President of Indonesia via Baznas, viewing it as a sign of trust in the national zakat management agency. Zainut stated that the act of sacrifice, within a national context, is not merely a ritual but also part of the social safety net for those in need. ‘When state resources are utilised to provide nutritious food, alleviate living burdens, and uphold social justice for impoverished families during this sacred festival, such actions satisfy both sharia and constitutional principles,’ Zainut added. Meanwhile, Ministry of Cooperatives Secretary Ahmad Zabadi commended Baznas’s empowerment programmes, including the 2026 ‘Blessed Sacrifice, Village Empowerment’ initiative. He viewed the ‘Blessed Sacrifice, Village Empowerment’ programme as a positive step towards improving equitable distribution of societal welfare. ‘The primary aim is to achieve social justice for all Indonesians through various welfare enhancement programmes, particularly in the economic sector. From the Ministry of Cooperatives’ perspective, we will continue to support this initiative,’ Ahmad said. On the occasion, Mulyadin Malik, Head of the Ministry of Villages’ Rural and Underdeveloped Areas Development Agency, also praised Baznas’s ‘Blessed Sacrifice, Village Empowerment’ programme, deeming it strategically valuable for rural development and poverty alleviation. He noted that the programme does not merely position villages as beneficiaries but actively involves local communities in the management, slaughter, and distribution of sacrificial animals. ‘This is the correct empowerment model. Empowered villages are not dependent ones,’ Mulyadin stated. Mulyadin also expressed hope that collaboration with Baznas could be expanded to reach more remote underdeveloped villages across Indonesia, ensuring equitable and just distribution of sacrificial benefits. One beneficiary, Solihin (45), expressed his gratitude: ‘Alhamdulillah, I am deeply thankful and moved to receive sacrificial meat from Baznas’s 2026 Blessed Sacrifice, Village Empowerment Programme. Thank you to Baznas and the donors who care for us, the residents of Jurangmangu Waste Pickers’ Village.’ He added: ‘May the donors be granted health, abundant rizq, and blessings by Allah SWT. We also pray that Baznas’s initiatives like this continue and help more people like us.’ The ‘Blessed Sacrifice, Village Empowerment’ programme is expected to strengthen food security for approximately 3,800 underprivileged families.
