Baznas Distributes Computer Lab Facilities and Launches ZCoffee Programme in Yogyakarta
The National Zakat Board (Baznas) of Indonesia, through the Sleman Regency branch, has distributed computer laboratory equipment to three universities in Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta, and launched the ZCoffee programme at ’Aisyiyah University of Yogyakarta (UNISA). This initiative aims to enhance the quality of education and support the economic empowerment of students.
The computer laboratory assistance was provided to AMIKOM University Yogyakarta, ’Aisyiyah University of Yogyakarta (UNISA), and Yogyakarta University of Technology (UTY), with the total value of the aid reaching Rp298.92 million. In addition to strengthening educational facilities, Baznas also launched the ZCoffee Programme at UNISA Yogyakarta through two outlets managed by four student beneficiaries (mustahik), with a total investment of Rp80 million. To date, six ZCoffee outlets operated by Baznas are functioning across various campuses in the Yogyakarta region, successfully empowering 12 beneficiaries.
The symbolic handover of the computer laboratory facilities and the ZCoffee programme took place at UNISA Yogyakarta. Rizaludin Kurniawan, the Head of Baznas RI for Mobilisation and Collection and the Regional Supervisor for the Special Region of Yogyakarta, stated that this educational facility aid is part of Baznas’ commitment to supporting human resource development through the education sector. “Educational facilities such as computer laboratories are social investments. The benefits are not only felt today but will also support the increased capacity and competitiveness of students in the future,” he said.
Furthermore, Rizaludin expressed hope that the presence of ZCoffee on campus would encourage a productive economic ecosystem and increase the independence of student beneficiaries. He also encouraged the public to increase their participation in zakat, noting that larger zakat funds would allow for wider empowerment programmes to reduce poverty and improve community welfare.
The Regent of Sleman, Harda Kiswaya, expressed his appreciation for Baznas’ support of the education sector. He noted that collaboration between local government, universities, and Baznas is a vital step in improving human resource quality and alleviating poverty. Kriswanto, Chairman of Baznas Sleman Regency, explained that the aid, which includes computers, printers, and televisions, is part of the ‘Sleman Pintar’ (Smart Sleman) programme. The breakdown of the aid includes Rp115.8 million for UNISA Yogyakarta, Rp115.8 million for AMIKOM University Yogyakarta, and Rp67.32 million for UTY. The Rector of UNISA Yogyakarta, Warsiti, also expressed gratitude for the support in strengthening digital learning infrastructure on campus.
