Baznas Distributes Aid to Victims of Kemayoran Fire
The National Board of Zakat (Baznas) has moved swiftly to respond to the fire that struck a densely populated residential area on Jalan Haji Ung, or Pasar Jiung, in the Kebon Kosong sub-district, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta. In the initial phase of the response, Baznas immediately deployed the Baznas Disaster Response (BTB) team, the Baznas Healthy House (RSB) team, humanitarian teams, and the Baznas Public Kitchen service to assist in the evacuation process and ensure that the health conditions and basic needs of the fire victims are addressed immediately.
Idy Muzayyad, the Head of Distribution, Utilisation, and Empowerment at Baznas RI, stated that aid began being distributed on Wednesday morning following the incident to ensure that the health and basic needs of the community could be met promptly. “A large fire has occurred, and we (Baznas) immediately sent teams to assist the affected community. We are also deeply saddened, as one of the victims was Ms Risma, a barista at ZCoffee, which is under the auspices of Bazlar,” Idy said in a written statement.
Idy noted that the BTB team is focusing on initial field handling, ranging from assisting in the evacuation of residents and assessing the condition of the victims to ensuring that the distribution of aid is fast and accurately targeted. “The Baznas Healthy House team is also present to provide health services and medical treatment for the affected residents. Simultaneously, ready-to-eat meal assistance has been prepared to help meet the food needs of the community during this emergency period,” Idy added.
He emphasised that health services are a critical need for those affected by the fire, particularly for children, the elderly, and individuals experiencing health issues due to smoke inhalation, exhaustion, or other emergency conditions. Furthermore, Idy stated that Baznas will continue to coordinate with various relevant parties to support the distribution of follow-up aid for the fire victims. “Baznas must certainly synergise with various elements of society. Collective support is greatly needed to accelerate the recovery of the residents affected by this disaster,” said Idy.
