Baznas Distributes 200,000 Litres of Clean Water in Palestine
The National Zakat Amil Body (Baznas) of the Republic of Indonesia, in collaboration with KitaBisa, has distributed 200,000 litres of clean water in the Zeitoun and Tel al-Hawa areas of Gaza City. The programme is designed to assist in meeting clean water needs for approximately 5,000 Palestinian residents who lack adequate access to water.
Deputy II of Baznas RI, Imdadun Rahmat, stated that access to clean water is a fundamental human right for every person. He expressed hope that this distribution would alleviate the daily burden faced by residents who frequently experience severe water shortages.
“This distribution is hoped to help meet the Palestinian community’s need for clean water, particularly in residential areas lacking water access,” he said in a written statement on Saturday (14 March).
Imdadun explained that the impact of genocide on the Palestinian population has been severe. It has not only devastated Palestinian land, but also destroyed infrastructure and water and sanitation facilities in the region.
“For this reason, they urgently need clean water, particularly in the Gaza Strip and displacement camps experiencing acute water access shortages,” he explained.
Each time clean water tanker trucks arrive, he noted, it has become a common sight for Gaza residents to queue for hours to obtain one or two containers filled with clean water.
“Through the Clean Water Distribution Programme for Palestine, Baznas calls upon Indonesian society to jointly help improve the quality of life of our brothers and sisters struggling amid such constraints,” he said.
The clean water distribution programme represents one collaborative effort between Baznas and KitaBisa in assisting communities in need. Imdadun expressed hope that the programme would continue and benefit even more people.
Imdadun also extended gratitude to the muzaki (those obligated to pay zakat) who have entrusted their zakat, infak and sadaqah (ZIS) donations through Baznas RI. Baznas is committed to channelling every rupiah with integrity, transparency and precise targeting in accordance with the 3A principle: regulatory security, NKRI security and Sharia security.
Baznas remains committed to continuing assistance for communities affected by conflict and disaster, including in Palestine. The distribution of food packages and clean water in various Palestinian territories requires meticulous coordination given the sensitivity of the region.
