JAKARTA — The National Zakat Agency (Baznas) has distributed 1,240 goats as hajj compensation for 2026 to meet the nutritional needs of recipients across provinces while empowering local breeders.

The symbolic distribution of the 2026 Hajj Compensation Programme began at Baznas Livestock Centre in Warungpring Village, Pemalang Regency, Central Java, on Friday (29 May), utilising supplies from 43 Baznas livestock centres across seven provinces, including the slaughter of 50 locally bred sheep.

‘The compensation animals handed over today are not merely ordinary food commodities, but a sacred trust from our hajj pilgrims,’ said Baznas RI Deputy Chairman Zainut Tauhid Sa’adi in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday (30 May 2026).

Zainut explained that the ongoing programme, active since 2024, aims to assist pilgrims paying hajj penalties domestically by providing meat to the needy and uplifting local breeders.

He added that this meat distribution also strengthens Baznas Livestock Centres’ contribution, which now spans 103 locations in 15 provinces, offering capital, production facilities, and business guidance to improve the welfare of needy breeders.

‘Baznas facilitates hajj pilgrims entrusting their compensation to us, ensuring it reaches those truly in need,’ he said.
