Baznas, Danantara, Kemenkop, and MES Sign MoU on Zakat Ecosystem

The MoU covers various programmes, beginning with the mobilisation or collection and distribution of zakat.

The National Zakat Agency (Baznas) of the Republic of Indonesia, together with BPI Danantara, the Ministry of Cooperatives, and the Islamic Economic Society (MES), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the zakat and sharia cooperative ecosystem in Indonesia.

The collaboration encompasses education and the collection of Zakat, Infaq, Sadaqah, and Other Religious Social Funds (ZIS-DSKL) within state-owned enterprises (BUMN), community economic empowerment based on sharia cooperatives and mosques, research collaboration and data exchange, as well as joint social actions in the fields of health, education, religious outreach, and disaster response.

“The MoU is for various programmes, starting with the mobilisation or collection and also distribution,” said Baznas Chairman Sodik Mudjahid in his statement in Jakarta on Friday.

In addition to optimising zakat governance within government institutions, he said, the collaboration also aims to expand the reach of social programmes fostered by BUMN across various regions.

Meanwhile, Head of BPI Danantara Rosan Perkasa Roeslani said that besides strengthening zakat management, the collaboration through this MoU also includes the development of community empowerment programmes ranging from mosque cooperatives and pesantren cooperatives to entrepreneurship development for santri.

These various economic empowerment programmes, Rosan said, will be directly linked to the sharia financial ecosystem under BUMN and BPI Danantara.

“And how we also connect this with the existing ecosystem within BUMN and Danantara, such as with sharia banks, sharia insurance, and other sharia financial services,” said Rosan.
