Baznas Boosts Wonogiri Mustahik Economy Through Dairy Goat Farming
The National Alms Agency (Baznas) has launched a programme in Sumberharjo, Eromoko, Wonogiri Regency, Central Java, to empower mustahik (zakat recipients) through dairy goat farming. The initiative aims to accelerate poverty alleviation by leveraging the region’s potential in the livestock sector.
Pimpinan Baznas RI for Distribution, Utilisation, and Empowerment, Idy Muzayyad, stated that the Balai Ternak Baznas programme optimises the use of zakat, infak, and sedekah (ZIS) funds to create a sustainable economic impact for beneficiaries. He noted that the livestock sector in the area holds strategic potential.
‘With this Balai Ternak programme, the income of farmers is projected to increase from an average of IDR 1.8 million to around IDR 3.66 million per month,’ Idy said.
The programme empowers 20 mustahik families with a total assistance package valued at IDR 517,460,000. It is a collaboration between Baznas RI, Baznas Wonogiri Regency, and the local government.
Idy stressed that the ultimate goal of the empowerment programme is not merely to increase income but to facilitate the transformation of mustahik into muzaki (zakat payers), enabling them to contribute back to society. He added that the initiative aligns with the local government’s efforts to improve community welfare through livestock development.
A representative from the Wonogiri Regency Government expressed readiness to synergise efforts to ensure the programme’s success.
