Baznas Begins Preparing Premium Rice for Zakat al-Fitr
The National Zakat Agency (Baznas) continues to strengthen partnerships with farmers participating in the Food Security program in various regions of Indonesia to prepare premium-quality rice for Zakat al-Fitr in 2026. The food security centers ready to supply rice for Zakat al-Fitr include the Purbalingga, Serang, Pesawaran, and Polewali Mandar centers.
The Head of Baznas’s Distribution and Utilization Division, Saidah Sakwan, stated that they are continuously striving to provide the best quality rice for Zakat al-Fitr while also strengthening the economic independence of partner farmers.
“Baznas continues to work towards providing premium-quality Zakat al-Fitr rice. For the supply of Zakat al-Fitr rice, we prioritize partner recipients of Baznas who are farmers. We maximize the use of their produce, and if there is still a shortage, we will then cooperate with other parties to fulfill it,” said Saidah in a written statement on Thursday (February 26).
This step is taken to ensure that Zakat al-Fitr is not only distributed well to recipients but also provides sustainable economic benefits for partner farmers.
Furthermore, she explained that the process of providing Zakat al-Fitr rice focuses not only on the final result but also monitors each stage of production. This includes ensuring optimal harvests, supervising the milling process to meet standards, and packaging the rice according to Baznas’s distribution regulations.
In addition to production aspects, Saidah said that distribution readiness is also a primary concern. Baznas prepares a coordinated delivery system to ensure that Zakat al-Fitr rice arrives on time at distribution points. Timeliness is a crucial factor given that Zakat al-Fitr has a deadline for distribution before Eid al-Fitr.
Saidah added that every grain of rice produced is a symbol of real empowerment. “Each grain of rice from the crops they harvest is evidence of the empowerment of partner farmers. This is not just about distributing aid, but about transforming recipients into empowered individuals,” she said.
Saidah said that the premium rice produced is the result of farmers’ hard work in managing rice cultivation from planting to harvest. Intensive assistance provided by Baznas ensures that production quality remains maintained and competitive.
“With this scheme, farmers not only receive capital assistance and guidance but also gain clear market access through the absorption of their harvest for Zakat al-Fitr needs,” she concluded. (E-3)
