Baznas (Bazis) DKI Strengthens Collaboration to Accelerate Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities
Collaboration between philanthropic institutions and the private sector is increasingly important in strengthening inclusive social development in Indonesia. This spirit was reflected in a social action event titled ‘Charity for Inclusion’ organised by Baznas (Bazis) DKI Jakarta together with PT Tokio Marine Life Insurance Indonesia at the Kendal Tunnel Car Free Day area, Sudirman, Jakarta, on Sunday.
The event, which combined entertainment, public services, and education, attracted thousands of residents who had gathered at the car-free day area since morning. Activities included free health check-ups for 200 beneficiaries, reflexology services by blind therapists, and the distribution of coffee brewed by baristas with disabilities from Coffe Difabis.
A talk show session featured representatives from Tokio Marine Life Insurance Indonesia and Baznas (Bazis) DKI Jakarta, sharing inspirational stories of beneficiaries and discussing the importance of cross-sector collaboration in creating more equal opportunities for vulnerable groups.
Senior Vice President Marketing, Product, & Corporate Planning of PT Tokio Marine Life Insurance Indonesia, Alexander Mahendrawan, stated that the collaboration was built on shared values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. He noted that the synergy between the corporate and social sectors can generate a broader impact for the community, particularly in opening economic opportunities for persons with disabilities.
As a concrete commitment, Tokio Marine Life Insurance Indonesia is supporting the development of a new Coffe Difabis outlet at Gambir Station. This initiative is part of the expansion of the business network managed by persons with disabilities, with the outlet becoming the eighth branch, and plans underway for the ninth, tenth, and eleventh outlets.
The programme demonstrates how economic empowerment can go hand in hand with strengthening social inclusion. The presence of persons with disabilities as reflexology therapists and baristas not only provides services to the public but also showcases their ability to contribute productively in public spaces.
Through this collaboration, Baznas (Bazis) DKI Jakarta and PT Tokio Marine Life Insurance Indonesia hope to encourage more private sector entities, social institutions, and the wider community to participate in creating a more friendly, equal, and inclusive environment. This step reinforces national development efforts that do not leave vulnerable groups behind, by expanding access to employment opportunities, economic empowerment, and social participation for persons with disabilities in Indonesia.
