Baznas Batam Distributes Aid to 1,870 Beneficiaries and 300 Persons with Disabilities
Batam — The National Zakat Collection Agency (Baznas) in Batam City, Riau Islands, distributed aid to 1,870 beneficiaries and 300 persons with disabilities as part of Baznas’s Ramadhan programme.
Habib Soleh, Chair of Baznas Batam City, stated that the activity was intended to assist disadvantaged communities, particularly sanitation workers and vulnerable groups.
“Through zakat, voluntary contributions, and alms, we wish to demonstrate genuine care towards communities in need. This is also part of our collective effort to realise Batam as a Civilised Global Port,” said Habib in Batam on Tuesday.
In the activity, Baznas Batam distributed 1,870 food parcels to beneficiaries.
The assistance was provided to 1,401 officers from the Environmental Sanitation Task Force, 147 officers from the Housing and Parks Service, 171 hospital staff, 70 officers from Sultan Mahmud Riayat Syah Mosque, 65 officers from Raja Hamidah Grand Mosque, and 16 officers from Baiturrahman Mosque.
Beyond food assistance, Baznas Batam also distributed cash assistance of 300,000 rupiah to 300 persons with disabilities as a demonstration of care towards vulnerable groups.
Habib Soleh conveyed that the activity was successful thanks to support and direction from Batam City Government officials to continue strengthening care towards those in need.
Batam Mayor Amsakar Achmad, in his remarks, invited the community to utilise the Ramadhan period as a time to increase worship whilst strengthening social awareness.
“Praise be to God that we are still blessed to witness Ramadhan 1447 Hijriah. This is a month full of blessings and opportunity for us to increase our good deeds,” said Amsakar.
He also expressed appreciation to sanitation workers who have played a role in maintaining cleanliness in Batam City.
“All of you are Batam’s sanitation heroes. When citizens wake up in the morning and see a clean environment, that is all thanks to your hard work,” he said.
Amsakar added that Batam City Government continues to seek the best solutions in addressing waste management issues in the city.
Additionally, he reminded that Ramadhan teaches not only Muslims to refrain from eating and drinking, but also to refrain from wrongdoing.
