Baznas and State Secretariat Ministry Synchronise Poverty Alleviation Programmes
The National Alms Agency (Baznas) together with the Ministry of State Secretariat (Kemensetneg) are synchronising steps and programmes to support the acceleration of poverty eradication in Indonesia by aligning Baznas’s priority programmes with the national development agenda. This synergy emerged during an audience with the Executive Office of the President (KSP) at the Baznas RI office in Jakarta.
Baznas’s Head of Distribution, Utilisation, and Empowerment, Idy Muzayyad, affirmed that the 13 priority programmes for the 2026–2031 period are designed to support poverty reduction and eradication efforts, which are a primary focus of the government. “There are 13 priority programmes in this Baznas period from 2026 to 2031, and essentially all of them are directed towards poverty eradication,” Idy stated.
According to Idy, the implementation of all these programmes is structured to align with the national development targets outlined in the ‘Asta Cita’, specifically the poverty eradication agenda. “The point is, we are ready for our distribution to be in accordance with the government’s programme, the Asta Cita, because we also have relations with Bappenas, especially regarding poverty eradication, which is the sixth Asta Cita,” he said.
In addition to strengthening programme synergy, Baznas is also pushing for the acceleration of a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) on zakat for State Civil Apparatus (ASN) and State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN). This regulation is expected to optimise national zakat collection, which currently stands at only about 10 per cent of the total potential. Through this regulatory strengthening, Baznas projects that zakat collection from the ASN and BUMN sectors could reach approximately Rp18 trillion per year. These funds are believed to expand the reach of empowerment programmes and increase Baznas’s capacity to assist the poor.
“It is not for us, we collect it to distribute it. Imagine if we could collect Rp18 trillion per year, how many people could be helped? How many of this nation’s problems could we solve? And that is a real potential right before our eyes,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, Erni Juliana, Expert Staff to the Deputy II of the Executive Office of the President (KSP), explained that the KSP’s main task is to provide support to the President and Vice President regarding the management, control, and oversight of the President’s priority programmes and strategic issues. She noted that the audience aimed to align zakat management programmes with various presidential priority programmes, including extreme poverty eradication, stunting reduction, and the strengthening of the Islamic economy and finance sector. The meeting also discussed strengthening the Islamic economic ecosystem in line with the planned transformation of the National Committee for Islamic Economy and Finance (KNEKS) into an Islamic Economy Agency.
