Baznas and MUI Honour Law Enforcement as 'Friends of the Poor'
The National Alms Agency (Baznas) RI, together with the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), has given appreciation to law enforcement officers, including judges, prosecutors, police, and advocates, who are deemed committed to protecting vulnerable communities, the poor, and the destitute.
Baznas RI Chairman Sodik Mudjahid stated in Jakarta on Monday that beyond meeting basic living needs, the community also has dynamic needs, including the right to legal protection, which is currently being pursued together with MUI.
“The needs of the people are layered and multiplied. There are basic needs met by Baznas for the poor and destitute, and there is also the need for legal protection. This is what we are now doing together with MUI, ensuring that besides having their food, clothing, and shelter needs met, the people also receive legal protection,” he said.
Sodik also affirmed Baznas RI’s commitment to synergising in the field with law enforcement partners deemed worthy of being strategic partners in protecting the poor.
He outlined five main movements of Baznas which are then broken down into 13 flagship programmes to open up collaboration opportunities with various parties on the ground.
Meanwhile, MUI Secretary General Amirsyah Tambunan said this activity expands the spectrum of cooperation to optimise the management of zakat, infak, and sedekah (ZIS).
He noted that this strategic step, planned as an annual agenda, focuses on strengthening law enforcement aspects to build compliance and increase public trust in Baznas regarding the management of public funds.
“If this law enforcement aspect can be implemented well, the welfare of the poor and destitute will increase. When law enforcement is strengthened, it will build public trust in the National Alms Agency to receive and distribute zakat, infak, and sedekah,” said Amirsyah.
