Jakarta – Indonesia’s National Zakat Board (Baznas) and crowdfunding platform Kitabisa have jointly sent humanitarian aid comprising 200,000 litres of clean water from Indonesian society to the Zeitoun and Tel al-Hawa areas of Gaza, Palestine.

Baznas Deputy II Imdadun Rahmat stated that access to clean water is a fundamental human right. Accordingly, this assistance is expected to help meet clean water needs for 5,000 Palestinians lacking adequate water access.

Imdadun explained that the impact of Israeli military operations on Palestinian society has been severe. The attacks have not only devastated Palestinian land but also destroyed water and sanitation infrastructure and facilities.

“For this reason, they urgently need clean water, particularly in the Gaza Strip and refugee areas experiencing acute water scarcity,” he continued.

Imdadun revealed that it has become commonplace for Gaza residents to queue for hours to obtain one or two containers of clean water each time water trucks arrive.

He therefore hopes that this programme will continue and provide benefits to even more people.

Imdadun thanked the donors who have entrusted their zakat, infaq and sadaqah (charitable contributions) through Baznas RI.

“Through the Clean Water Distribution Programme for Palestine, Baznas invites Indonesian society to join together in helping improve the living standards of our brothers and sisters facing extraordinary hardship,” said Imdadun Rahmat.
