Baznas and Indonesian Parliament Strengthen Synergy in Zakat Management through UPZ Formation
The National Zakat Agency (Baznas) RI and the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) are strengthening synergy in zakat management through a plan to establish Zakat Collection Units (UPZ) within the DPR RI’s Council Completeness Apparatus (AKD) environment. This step is expected to facilitate employees in fulfilling their zakat, infak, and sedekah (ZIS) obligations while optimising the collection of public funds for various welfare programmes. During the meeting, both parties also discussed efforts to revitalise the Amal Pancasila Mosque within the AKD DPR RI environment as part of strengthening the mosque’s function as a centre for worship, preaching, and community empowerment. Baznas Chairman Sodik Mudjahid stated that besides supporting the revitalisation of the Amal Pancasila Mosque, Baznas is also open to collaboration through the formation of UPZ within the AKD DPR RI. He believes the UPZ will serve as a strategic means to facilitate employees in fulfilling their ZIS duties and strengthen ZIS fund collection. “If the mosque is active, we will certainly support its prosperity and economic growth through Baznas’ strategic programmes, such as Baznas Microfinance Mosque and ZCorner,” Sodik said, as quoted from an official statement on Saturday (20/6). Currently, the Amal Pancasila Mosque is temporarily closed due to significant damage, forcing operations to halt to ensure the comfort and safety of worshippers. Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of the DPR Legislation Body, Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung, explained that the temporary closure was to support the renovation process and institutional governance improvements. He noted that the new management is currently carrying out a comprehensive restructuring, with the initial phase focusing on physical asset repairs, including the building and mosque facilities. “In fact, the enthusiasm of the congregation is very high, with various community activities, to the point that it is always full during Friday prayers,” he said. Therefore, he hopes Baznas can support the revitalisation of the Amal Pancasila Mosque so that preaching activities and religious services for the community can resume optimally. Ahmad Doli also welcomed the plan to establish UPZ within the AKD DPR RI environment. According to him, the presence of UPZ will strengthen the culture of zakat among employees while supporting the optimisation of zakat, infak, and sedekah fund collection for the benefit of the people.
