Baznas and Gunadarma University Applaud Integrated Social Services with Clinical Standards
The implementation of the ‘UPZ UG Berdampak’ social service programme, which included mass circumcision and free medical check-ups at the F6 Auditorium of Gunadarma University in Depok, has been deemed a success in delivering safe and professional clinical standards to the community. The success of this humanitarian programme rests on the strategic synergy between the university’s Zakat Collection Unit (UPZ), which manages philanthropic funding, and the Faculty of Medicine, which serves as the technical executor in the field.
Mega Oktaviany, Ph.D., the committee chair and Daily Executive Director of UPZ UG, explained that the active involvement of the internal Faculty of Medicine is a concrete commitment to maintaining the quality and accountability of public fund distribution. This reciprocal relationship is considered capable of converting zakat, infak, and sedekah funds into optimal healthcare facilities. ‘The presence of the Faculty of Medicine within the Gunadarma ecosystem allows us to design philanthropic programmes that not only provide aid but also guarantee medical safety standards. This synergy ensures that zakat funds are channelled into comprehensive health services executed directly by certified experts,’ Mega stated on Sunday.
This tactical move, combining philanthropic management with internal medical expertise, drew high appreciation from the Rector of Gunadarma University, Prof. Dr. E.S. Margianti, S.E., M.M., who attended the event in person. She asserted that this cross-unit collaboration is tangible proof of the university’s ability to translate academic expertise into social action that has a broad impact on the surrounding community ecosystem. ‘This cross-unit collaboration between UPZ and the Faculty of Medicine proves that the campus can translate academic knowledge into real humanitarian action. This is a very comprehensive form of community service, where residents truly receive direct benefits from the facilities and expertise owned by the university,’ Prof. Margianti said.
Similar support and praise also came from the leadership of the National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) RI. The national zakat authority assessed that the expertise integration model initiated by Gunadarma University is highly suitable to serve as a pilot or benchmark for the governance of zakat collection units in other higher education institutions across Indonesia. ‘This synergy involving the campus’s internal medical personnel is highly commendable. UPZ Gunadarma has successfully proven that the management of zakat, infak, and sedekah can be directly integrated with its institutional expertise, thereby providing quality assurance and hygienic services for the wider community,’ a Baznas RI leadership representative emphasised.
Through this integrated collaboration scheme, the ‘UPZ UG Berdampak 2026’ agenda reportedly succeeded in facilitating mass circumcision for 44 children aged between 2 and 14 years, complete with entertainment and gift packages. Simultaneously, the medical team also provided free screening services for blood sugar, uric acid, and cholesterol levels to 150 local residents and university academic community members.
