Baznas and Bappenas integrate zakat into national development planning
This was highlighted during a meeting between leaders of the three institutions in Jakarta on Tuesday to discuss strategic data integration.
In a statement on Wednesday, Baznas Head Sodik Mudjahid stated that optimizing zakat potential is a mandate from President Prabowo Subianto.
The potential value of national zakat is estimated to reach Rp327 trillion which is approximately US$19.2 billion.
“The President has provided several directives including optimizing zakat potential and integrating Baznas data and programs with various stakeholders, strengthening Zakat Collection Units at the village and sub-district levels, and digitalizing zakat management,” Mudjahid expounded.
The head of Baznas further said that there are plans to revise the Zakat Law to strengthen policy integration across the government.
He also expressed appreciation to the National Development Planning Ministry for establishing zakat as a formal part of national development planning.
In response, National Development Planning Minister Rachmat Pambudy expressed readiness to support Baznas in increasing national zakat collection.
According to Pambudy, only about 10 percent of the estimated Rp327 trillion in zakat potential in Indonesia has been tapped.
“Thus there is an opportunity to raise that figure to 20 or 30 percent,” he remarked regarding the growth potential.
The minister assessed that zakat plays a key role in driving economic growth and improving community welfare through systematic measures.
He also encouraged mapping zakat beneficiaries based on National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN) as a reference for distribution to ensure it is more targeted.
BPS Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti also expressed her agency’s readiness to collaborate in bolstering data integration and mapping zakat potential comprehensively.
She noted that BPS and Baznas will update the calculation of zakat potential through a survey or a census in 2026 to obtain more accurate data.
“Moving forward we can also provide decile-based information to map zakat recipients so that distribution is more targeted,” Widyasanti said.
