Bayur Village in Serang Allegedly Contaminated by Hazardous Waste; 12 Samples Undergoing Testing
Officers conducted inspections at a site suspected of being contaminated with hazardous and toxic waste (B3) in Kampung Bayur, Nambo Udik Village, Serang Regency, Banten, on Thursday (3/9/2026). The investigation follows the discovery of Potassium-40 (K-40) content in several materials at the location.
The Banten Regional Police stated that initial detection results for air quality and radiation levels at the site remain monitored as safe, at approximately 0.05 microSieverts per hour. Nevertheless, the presence of K-40 in certain materials requires further examination to confirm its characteristics and composition.
A team has collected 12 material samples for laboratory testing. These tests aim to verify the material content and determine whether the findings are linked to suspected pollution in the area.
The inspection and sampling serve as the initial steps to ensure the environmental conditions surrounding the site. The Banten Regional Police emphasised that the discovery of K-40 in several samples cannot immediately be concluded as radioactive pollution, and the laboratory results are still awaited.
