The Bawen-Ambarawa toll road segment will be opened for functional operation during the Eid holiday traffic period. The section is scheduled to be operational from 13-30 March 2026. The functional opening is expected to ease traffic congestion at Bawen Junction in Semarang Regency, Central Java.

Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi stated that ahead of the Eid holiday exodus, several national highways will be functionalised, including segments within the Trans-Java Toll Road. “There are two functional openings: first is Bawen-Ambarawa which is planned to extend to Yogyakarta. Then there is the Solo-Yogyakarta section up to Prambanan,” he said on Thursday (12 April 2026).

According to Luthfi, the functional opening of these two toll segments will help manage vehicle flow during peak periods. “We are opening these functionally to prevent blackspot and trouble spots. Bawen is usually congested during peak holiday traffic,” he said.

However, because signage installation and lighting on both toll segments remain incomplete, the functional operation will not run 24 hours. “Since the signage and lighting are not yet fully installed, the functional operation is not a full 24 hours, only until 5 pm,” said Luthfi.

The Bawen-Ambarawa toll segment opened for functional operation during the holiday exodus is Lane A, running from Bawen to Ambarawa. During the return journey, Lane B (Ambarawa-Bawen) will also be opened for functional operation. The toll segment stretches approximately 4.98 kilometres, extending from Bawen toll exit to Ambarawa toll exit.
