SEMARANG — The Yogya-Bawen toll road’s Bawen-Ambarawa segment has been opened for operation to support the smooth flow of traffic during the 2026 Lebaran mudik and balik period.

During this operational phase, motorists can use the road without paying toll charges, subject to a maximum speed limit of 40 kilometres per hour.

“We are still limiting vehicle speed to 40 kilometres per hour,” said Radyo Wijoyo Danubroto, Technical Director of PT Jasamarga Jogja Bawen, to the Merapah Trans-Jawa 2026 team at Ambarawa Toll Gate on Sunday (15 March 2026).

The Merapah 2026 programme has received full support from the Indonesian Toll Association (ATI), PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk, Honda Prospect Motor (APM), ASTRA Infra, PT Citra Marga Nusaphala Persada Tbk, and Waskita Toll Road.

“We are currently at Section 6, the Ambarawa-Bawen segment spanning 4 kilometres. The physical progress has reached 96 per cent. God willing, by May it will be complete,” Danu said.

He explained that the toll road’s pavement infrastructure is already finished. However, some supplementary works are still being completed.

“The pavement infrastructure itself is 100 per cent complete, though there are still finishing touches. However, we have ensured that safety aspects have been met to support the smooth flow of mudik and balik traffic,” he said.

Danu explained that the functional Bawen-Ambarawa toll section opened on 13 March 2026 daily from 06:00 until 17:00 Western Indonesian Time.

“We started opening the functional section on 13 March 2026. It opens from 06:00 WIB and closes daily at 17:00 WIB,” he said.

During the outbound mudik period, the toll road operates in one direction from Bawen towards Ambarawa.

During the return balik period, traffic direction will be reversed.

“For the return traffic from 23 March 2026 until 30 March 2026, it will operate from Ambarawa towards Bawen, in the opposite direction,” he said.

Danu noted that his team has coordinated with police to anticipate potential traffic congestion around the functional toll road section.
