Bawaslu and Ministry of Religious Affairs in Central Jakarta Sign MoU to Boost Electoral Literacy
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) of Central Jakarta Administrative City and the Central Jakarta Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs have signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance electoral literacy.
The MoU was signed as a strategic step for both institutions to build cross-sector collaboration, encompassing the improvement of electoral literacy, the socialisation of participatory oversight within educational institutions and places of worship, and the strengthening of civil servant neutrality commitments.
"We hope that through this MoU, the values of honesty, integrity and neutrality can be further upheld, particularly within educational and religious environments," said Central Jakarta Bawaslu Chairman Christian Nelson Pangkey in Jakarta on Wednesday (18 February).
He expressed hope that these values could be upheld, given that religious figures and religious institutions play a critically important role in maintaining a peaceful and conducive democratic atmosphere.
Meanwhile, Acting Head of the Central Jakarta Ministry of Religious Affairs Office, Robi Fadil Muhammad, stated his institution's full commitment to supporting Bawaslu's work in upholding clean and integrity-driven elections.
"The Ministry of Religious Affairs fully supports the efforts of Central Jakarta Bawaslu in safeguarding democracy and overseeing clean, integrity-based elections, particularly in relation to the education and socialisation of electoral regulations for religious counsellors, madrasah teachers and Ministry of Religious Affairs civil servants," he said.
He underscored the importance of keeping places of worship free from practical political activities, as well as ensuring that civil servants remain professional and do not engage in activities that constitute neutrality violations.
