Beijing Automobile Works (BAW) has officially entered the Indonesian market at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026, introducing five vehicle models and marking a strategic move into the growing electric vehicle and light commercial vehicle market in Southeast Asia. The company also announced the establishment of a local subsidiary, PT BAW Automobile Trading Indonesia, along with plans for a knock-down (KD) assembly project to accelerate localisation and enhance supply chain efficiency.

Indonesia is a key market and a gateway to the right-hand drive automotive industry in Southeast Asia, said Tocy Tang, President Director of BAW Automobile Trading Indonesia. With 75 years of experience, we are very confident in introducing our latest product line at GIIAS 2026 as a reflection of our long-term commitment to the Indonesian market. Through PT BAW Automobile Trading Indonesia, we will also carry out local KD assembly, develop a comprehensive sales and after-sales network, with the aim of providing reliable, intelligent, and affordable mobility solutions, while supporting Indonesia’s automotive industry.

Indonesia is a vast and geographically diverse market where right-hand drive vehicles are the standard, with demand coming from dense cities, suburban commuters, and inter-island logistics needs. Policy measures in recent years to boost the local vehicle and parts supply chain have made the market more open to foreign players. BAW’s entry has the potential to increase competition in both the new energy passenger vehicle market and the growing electric commercial vehicle industry.

Founded in 1951, BAW has over 75 years of experience in the automotive manufacturing industry. The company applies military-grade engineering standards that guarantee exceptional durability, reliability, and performance. It currently operates five major manufacturing plants and offers a diverse product range, from off-road vehicles and MPVs to new energy passenger cars, electric commercial vehicles, and special-purpose vehicles.

To meet the diverse needs of passenger and commercial vehicles in Indonesia and Southeast Asia, BAW introduced five flagship models at GIIAS covering the premium, off-road, urban mobility, and green logistics segments. The M8 is the latest premium electric MPV designed for exclusive and luxurious family travel, featuring an elegant concept, spacious cabin, and efficient electric power. The T01 is a rugged off-road vehicle designed for challenging terrain and outdoor adventures, with a traditional and reliable body-on-frame construction and five-link solid axles front and rear. The X03 is a versatile all-condition SUV that combines smart technology, comfort, and capable off-road performance, designed to transition easily from city streets to outdoor exploration. The D5, with its nimble and efficient new energy solution, is specifically designed for young urban drivers, offering a compact design, ease of driving, and zero-emission performance. The T10 Pro is an electric pick-up truck perfect for small businesses, couriers, mobile traders, and freight operators. Following its debut at GIIAS, BAW will accelerate the local KD assembly project to increase production capacity and supply chain efficiency, followed by localisation of sales, operations, and after-sales services to create a fully integrated business ecosystem serving Indonesian customers.
