Police have uncovered motorcycle theft (curanmor) operations allegedly conducted by a criminal network originating from Lampung. A suspect was apprehended by the Operations Team of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Batuceper Police Station, Metro Tangerang City Police.

The suspect, identified as O (27), a resident of Lampung, was arrested whilst attempting to flee with a stolen motorcycle. He was apprehended on Friday, 6 March 2026 at approximately 04:00 Western Indonesian Time in the Poris Jaya area, Batuceper District, Tangerang City.

Batuceper Police Station Chief Kompol Gunawan explained that the arrest resulted from mobile patrols conducted by the operations team whilst investigating motorcycle theft cases in the region.

“Members received information from the public regarding two suspicious individuals who were not local residents. The team proceeded to the location and found one of the suspects emerging from an alley whilst riding a motorcycle,” said Gunawan.

The Criminal Investigation Unit then immediately pursued and stopped the suspect. Upon inspection, the suspect admitted that the motorcycle he was riding had just been stolen from a rental house near the location.

Meanwhile, a second suspect identified as R, who served as the actual thief, managed to escape. R has since been added to the wanted persons list.

The suspect confessed to having committed motorcycle thefts across various areas in the greater Jakarta region. “Based on the suspect’s confession, they have committed nine motorcycle thefts in areas such as Cipondoh, Serpong, Curug, Cikupa, Balaraja, and Cengkareng,” explained Gunawan.

The stolen motorcycles were intended to be shipped to the Tanggamus region in Lampung. The transport was to be carried out using a pickup-type travel vehicle from the Cikupa area, Tangerang Regency.

Police also conducted a search at the rental accommodation of the other suspect in the Cikupa region. However, upon arrival, the rental accommodation was already empty. Only several items were found at the location, including helmets and a grinding machine allegedly used for manufacturing counterfeit keys.

The suspect and evidence have since been seized at Batuceper Police Station for investigation purposes. Police continue to develop leads to apprehend other suspects involved in the network.

Evidence in the case includes a Honda Beat Street motorcycle, a T-shaped key, counterfeit sub-keys, a kitchen knife, and key modification tools commonly used to breach vehicles.

Tangerang City Police Chief Kombes Raden Muhammad Jauhari urged the public to increase vigilance and use additional security locks to prevent motorcycle theft.

“Active public participation greatly assists us in preventing and uncovering criminal offences. Immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest Police Headquarters or Police Station, or through our call centre service at 110, a toll-free service,” he said.
