Hotel occupancy in Batu City, East Java, reached 80% during the Waisak 2026 long weekend, according to data from the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Batu chapter.

“Alhamdulillah, hotel occupancy is high; Insha’Allah, it has reached 80% as of Saturday and Sunday,” said PHRI Batu Chairman Sujud Haryadi, cited by Antara on Monday, 1 June 2026.

He noted that during the 2026 Eid al-Adha holiday period, fewer people travelled outside their regions for tourism activities, as they focused on religious observances and sacrificial rituals.

Conditions during regular periods differ from long weekends. Outside of long weekends, hotel occupancy in Batu City fluctuates, averaging between 30% and 60% on weekdays.

Sujud remains optimistic that occupancy rates could rise further.

“We are also confident that hotel occupancy could reach 90% as the holiday period extends until Monday,” he added.

The city’s tourism appeal does not stand alone. Supportive factors include a robust tourism ecosystem fostered by collaboration among local government, tourism service providers, hotels, and restaurants.

Micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) and street vendors at tourist spots also play a role.

Despite this, PHRI Batu continues to promote initiatives to showcase the region’s tourism potential, especially amid global conflict uncertainties.

“Alhamdulillah, everything in Batu is synergising to create bundled packages that strengthen promotion,” Sujud said.
