Batu Bolong temple faces erosion
TABANAN, Bali: Batu Bolong Hindu temple in the coastal village of Beraban in Tabanan regency is dwindling in size due to coastal erosion, an official said.
I Made Sulendra, the head of the temple's management, said here on Thursday that ocean waves were eating away at the site.
The temple is not much different in historical value to neighboring Tanah Lot temple.
"A few years ago, the distance between the building's fence and the sea was around one meter, now it's disappeared. It has almost all been washed away by waves. Large waves crash against the rock on which the temple stands all the time, steadily eroding the rock," he said.
Sulendra, who also manages Tanah Lot tourist resort, appealed to the government and local people to provide resources to help prevent erosion.--Antara.
