'Batavia Fantasy' music concert

JAKARTA (JP): The Betawi music concert, held over the weekend
at the Gedung Kesenian Jakarta, was highlighted by Batavia
Fantasy, a composition which combines both traditional and modern
music.

The composition, which was arranged by musician Elfa Secioria,
took up 30 minutes of the two-hour performance. The event was
sponsored by the City Culture Office in cooperation with the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the City Tourism Office, Antara
reported Saturday.

The concert, which was led by conductor Murtadji and performed
by 40 musicians, also presented a half-an-hour song containing a
combination of Chinese, Arabian and Malayan cultures.

During the music performance, which was mainly aimed at
developing the Betawi arts, a number of dances, entitled Kelono
Topeng (from Central Java), Topeng Losari (Cirebon), Tari Topeng
(Bali) and Tari Topeng Betawi, were also presented.

The performance was attended by Vice Governor of Welfare
Affairs Museno and a number of representatives of foreign
