Batang (ANTARA) - The Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Industropolis Batang in Central Java is preparing the construction of a dry port and other facilities to support logistics connectivity in the area.

Managing Director of the Batang Integrated Industrial Zone (KITB) Ngurah Wirawan in Batang on Wednesday said that the development of the dry port will be integrated with the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) concept on approximately 50 hectares of land.

“Currently, the dry port construction is about to enter the groundbreaking phase. This project will be carried out through cooperation with PT Kereta Api Indonesia and Pelindo to support the area’s logistics connectivity,” he said.

He stated that the zone is designed not only as an industrial centre but also as an integrated city that is comfortable for living.

“Batang is not just an industrial zone but we are designing it as a complete city, a place where people can live and engage in activities. In line with that, the government is also planning to develop the tourism sector in the area, including the construction of a 27-hole golf course targeted to operate in three to four years,” he said.

In addition, the Batang Integrated Industrial Zone is also studying the development of a waterfront city as part of strengthening the coastal area.

This project will be equipped with the construction of artificial islands to protect the port from sea waves as an alternative to conventional breakwater construction.

“We are applying for permits for the reclamation project to build two new islands as protectors for the port in the future,” he said.

He said that by the end of 2025, a total of 39 Industrial Land Utilisation Agreements (PPTI) have been signed, 12 factories are operational, and around 20 factories are still in the construction phase.

“We estimate that this zone can create 3,000 to 4,000 new jobs every year. The zone’s development has also entered its second phase, with approximately 200 hectares of industrial land already sold,” he said.
