The Batang Industropolis Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is experiencing rapid development with various strategic projects in preparation. These projects include the construction of a dry port, worker residential areas, and the development of an integrated tourism destination. The Managing Director of the Batang Integrated Industrial Zone (KITB), Ngurah Wirawan, stated that the worker dormitory facility is targeted to be ready for use next month.

Ngurah Wirawan explained that the inauguration of the worker dormitory facility is planned to be conducted by the Minister of Investment and Head of BKPM, Rosan Roeslani. “It is planned to be inaugurated by the Minister of Investment and Head of BKPM, Rosan Roeslani, who laid the first stone two years ago,” he said when met at the Marketing Gallery Office of the Batang Industropolis SEZ, Batang Regency, on Wednesday (15/4/2026).

In addition, the construction of the dry port is also being prepared and will soon enter the first stone-laying stage. This project will be carried out through cooperation with PT Kereta Api Indonesia and Pelindo to improve logistics connectivity in the area. Ngurah added that this dry port will be integrated with the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) concept on land of around 50 hectares.

Ngurah Wirawan emphasised that Batang is designed not only as an industrial zone but also as a comfortable integrated city to live in. “Batang is not just an industrial zone, but we are designing it as a complete city, a place where people can live and be active. In line with that, the government is also planning tourism sector development in the area, including the construction of a 27-hole golf course targeted to operate in three to four years,” he explained.

Furthermore, KITB is also studying the development of a waterfront city as part of strengthening the coastal area. This project will be equipped with the construction of artificial islands to protect the port from sea waves, as an alternative to conventional breakwater construction. “We are applying for permission for the reclamation project to build two new islands as port protectors in the future,” he asserted.

The development of the industrial zone in Batang shows a positive trend. Until the end of last year, 39 Industrial Land Utilisation Agreements (PPTI) had been signed. Currently, 12 factories are operational and around 20 other factories are still in the construction phase. “We estimate this zone can create around 3,000 to 4,000 new jobs every year. The zone development has also entered the second phase, with around 200 hectares of industrial land sold,” he clarified.

In addition to the industrial sector, KITB is also planning the development of commercial and tourism areas on the western side of the zone. Facilities to be built include hotels, shopping centres, cinemas, to recreational facilities such as amusement parks, golf courses, and horse racing arenas. “Through this integrated development, the Batang Industropolis SEZ is expected not only to become a national industrial centre but also a modern zone capable of supporting economic growth while improving the quality of life for the community,” he concluded.
