Batang Regency Tightens Three-Axle Truck Operations on Northern Coast Road
Batang (ANTARA) - The Batang Regency Government in Central Java is coordinating with multiple agencies to tighten operations of three-axle trucks travelling along the northern coast road as part of efforts to improve safety and traffic flow.
Head of the Batang Regency Transport Agency, Eko Widiyanto, said on Friday that his office, together with the Batang Police Traffic Unit, would conduct operations to restrict three-axle or larger vehicles at the Kandeman Toll exit.
“This measure is being taken to ease congestion and minimise the potential for accidents on the northern coast route,” he said.
Eko, accompanied by Head of the Supervision and Control Section of the Batang Transport Agency, Sakti Nurhuda, said three-axle or larger vehicles may use the toll road between 05:00 and 21:00 Western Indonesian Time.
Traffic signs have already been installed, he said, but many truck drivers still choose to travel on the national road due to toll cost considerations.
“Going forward, we will continue to strengthen public awareness campaigns so that toll road usage can be more optimal,” he said.
In addition to restricting three-axle truck operating hours, the Batang Transport Agency also plans to enforce proper use of the road right-of-way along the stretch from Kandeman Sub-district to the Kandeman Bulog Warehouse.
The enforcement will include clearing road shoulders of food stall activities, tyre repair workshops, and welding businesses that occupy national road areas belonging to the Public Works Ministry/National Road Implementation Agency (PU/BPJN).
According to him, the presence of such business activities has the potential to disrupt the primary function of the road and endanger road users.
“We are conducting awareness campaigns and issuing advisories to truck drivers who frequently park their vehicles on road shoulders, particularly in U-turn areas such as in the Tulis and Jatisari districts. However, should they persist, police enforcement action may be taken,” he said.
