Batang (ANTARA) - The Batang Regency Government, Central Java, has instructed educators or teachers to provide education on limiting the use of social media or gadgets among children to prevent them from overindulging and becoming disinterested in learning.

Batang Deputy Regent Suyono stated in Batang on Saturday that children must grow up intelligently in the modern world, but restrictions on gadget use are necessary to prevent exposure to negative video content.

“Reducing or using gadgets is not entirely negative. However, through education, we can determine what schoolchildren or teenagers should watch and what they should not,” he said.

He mentioned that the regency is preparing policies to support the implementation of the relevant law and its derivatives, including Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems.

“It is education that can provide boundaries for children. To parents or school principals, we hope to form discussion forums to control children’s activities,” he said.

According to him, the task of controlling children is not entirely the school’s responsibility, but parents play a very important role in this matter because they spend the most time with their sons and daughters.

He appreciated the educational activities carried out by Islamic boarding schools that do not allow students to use mobile phones.

“Therefore, we want public schools to implement something similar so that children are not allowed to bring mobile phones,” he said.
