Batang (ANTARA) - The Batang Regency Government in Central Java has taken swift action to evacuate residents affected by flooding that struck six villages/sub-districts in Batang Sub-district on Thursday.

The Head of the Batang Regency Disaster Mitigation Agency, Wawan Nurdiansyah, in Batang, stated that high-intensity rainfall occurring from Wednesday (25/3) night until Thursday (26) morning caused several villages/sub-districts to be inundated by floods.

“Yes, several areas are submerged in floods. Currently, the BPBD team is at the location to handle the flood-affected residents,” he said.

The Batang Regency Disaster Mitigation Agency recorded that approximately six villages/sub-districts affected by the flood are Klidang Lor, Karangasem Utara, Kalipucang Wetan, Kalipucang Kulon, Watesalit, and Kasepuhan.

Accompanied by the Head of the Emergency and Logistics Division, Muhammad Fajri, he said that the evacuation process is still ongoing to ensure residents feel safe.

Combined personnel, he added, are currently focused on assisting the evacuation of residents, especially vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children who are still inside their homes.

“Our team is helping to evacuate residents trapped by the flood, particularly the elderly and children,” he said.

He stated that although several settlements are affected, his side ensures that the condition of the northern coastal route in the Batang area remains safe and not flooded.

“Traffic flow, including the Lebaran return flow, is still monitored to be smooth. We urge the public to increase vigilance when carrying out activities outside the home because the potential for extreme weather can still occur,” he said.
