Batan must honor consultations

Batan must honor consultations

From Pelita

It is shameful indeed that an official of the National Atomic
Agency (Batan) said that the House of Representatives and the
community did not have enough knowledge on nuclear energy
technology and so discussion on the matter was irrelevant. This
statement demonstrates snobbery on the part of the official as an
intellectual. Batan and its officials should realize that they
obtained the knowledge at the cost of the people's sweat.

Also they should be aware of their social responsibility and
work for the sake of the whole people. Their knowledge of nuclear
technology will be of little use to mankind if arrogance and
vanity lurk in their hearts. On the other hand, such attitudes
will only lead them to committing sinful deeds.

Nuclear technology does not only belong to the small group of
Batan, as the whole nation is responsible for the welfare of
mankind and future generations through proper application of the
acquired technology.

It is in this context that the Analysts Group Foundation calls
on Batan to refer to the principle of deliberations to reach
unanimous agreement in its plan to build a nuclear-powered
electricity plant, instead of relying only on the result of the
feasibility study and being suspected of bowing to the interest
of a certain country that wants to sell its nuclear reactor
technology.
