Batam’s economy grew 7.28% year on year in the second quarter of 2026, higher than the Riau Islands province at 6.99% and the national figure of 5.29%. Among the regencies and cities in the Riau Islands, Batam ranks among the top three for growth, while also serving as the main driver of the regional economy based on industry, investment, trade and services.

The Head of BP Batam, Amsakar Achmad, said the achievement reflects growing confidence among the business community in Batam.

“The 7.28% growth is the result of collective effort. Our task now is to maintain this momentum through faster services, better infrastructure and an increasingly competitive investment climate,” Amsakar explained in an official statement issued on Tuesday (8/9/2026).

Meanwhile, the Deputy Head of BP Batam, Li Claudia Chandra, stressed that economic growth must translate into tangible benefits for the community.

“Good growth is growth that creates jobs, expands business opportunities and improves people’s quality of life,” said Li Claudia.

For this reason, she said, strengthening basic services, clean water, transport and urban infrastructure will remain priorities. On the other hand, BP Batam’s Deputy for Investment, Fary Djemy Francis, emphasised that investment must deliver real economic impact.

“Investment must not stop at commitments. Investment must become projects, projects must become production, and production must create jobs,” said Fary.

According to him, successful investment is measured not only by the value that comes in, but also by the speed of realisation, the added value created and the number of jobs generated. BP Batam will continue to promote quality investment in advanced manufacturing, data centres, digital industries, energy and logistics, in line with Batam’s vision as an industrial and digital economic hub for Southeast Asia.

The 7.28% growth confirms that Batam is not only an investment destination, but also a centre for creating economic value.

“Our target is not merely high growth, but growth that is of quality, inclusive and sustainable,” Fary concluded.
