Batam Weather Forecast 28 May 2026: Thunderstorm Alert in the Afternoon

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Hang Nadim Batam Station has issued a weather forecast for Batam City on Thursday, 28 May 2026. Although morning and afternoon conditions are predominantly sunny with clouds, residents are advised to remain vigilant for significant weather changes in the afternoon and evening. Latest observational data indicates Batam’s average temperature is around 31 degrees Celsius with high humidity levels. Atmospheric dynamics in the Riau Islands region have triggered increasing convective cloud growth in the afternoon due to surface heating and high moisture content. BMKG Aviation data for Hang Nadim Airport shows horizontal visibility remains above 10 kilometres, indicating safe and normal visual flight operations. However, relevant authorities continue periodic monitoring due to the rapidly changing nature of island weather. ‘Generally, Batam’s weather remains conducive for public activities and flight operations. However, we advise residents to remain cautious of potential rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds in the afternoon and evening,’ said a BMKG Hang Nadim Batam forecaster on Thursday (28/5). Thunderstorm chances are expected to begin around 6:00 PM WIB before clearing up in the evening. BMKG has issued key reminders for Batam residents: Overall, daily activities can continue smoothly while taking precautions against potential extreme weather at the end of the day. Floods have submerged several areas in Batam due to drainage systems unable to handle water runoff. BMKG warns of extreme weather until the weekend.
