Batam weather on Sunday, 8 March, is forecast to be predominantly cloudy with a possibility of light rain in the afternoon, which could affect several activities dependent on weather conditions at sea.

The forecast from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) via Hang Nadim Batam Meteorological Station notes that humidity in the Riau Islands region is relatively high, supporting the formation of rainclouds.

Forecasters from BMKG Hang Nadim Batam say the morning is generally cloudy, with showers possible in the afternoon in some areas. “Overall, Batam and the Riau Islands are forecast to be cloudy on Sunday with a chance of light rain in the afternoon,” the BMKG Hang Nadim Batam forecaster said on Sunday.

Though the expected rainfall is light, it can still impact activities reliant on weather conditions, particularly fishermen, sea transport operators, and port loading/unloading.

Batam, an archipelago with high maritime mobility, makes weather a key factor for inter-island voyages, passenger vessel trips, and traditional fishing activities, which could be affected by sudden showers.

In addition, communities engaged in marine tourism such as fishing or visiting nearby islands are advised to check weather conditions before setting out. Rapid weather changes in coastal waters can affect visibility and sea travel comfort.

BMKG also notes that weather in the Riau Islands can change dynamically. Therefore, the public is encouraged to continue monitoring the latest forecast via official BMKG channels to anticipate possible changes.

With the potential for light rain in the afternoon, people are advised to adjust plans for sea or coastal activities to stay safe and comfortable. (H-2)

Weather changes can be rapid in Batam, and residents are urged to increase vigilance, especially for users of sea and air transport.

According to BMKG, weather in the Kepri area is currently dominated by overcast skies due to relatively high wind speeds around the region and the air humidity.

BMKG Stasiun Maritim Tenau Kupang forecasts that wave heights in certain waters of NTT could reach up to 2.9 meters during 8-14 March 2026.

The variable weather conditions are expected to be taken into account in planning land, sea, and air travel, as well as outdoor activities.
