'Batam TV' still airing despite ban

BATAM: Batam's first local television station, Batam TV, and
Radio station Hang FM continue their broadcasts, despite warnings
that they have no permits and to abandon frequencies used also by
several television and radio stations in Malaysia and Singapore.

"We have warned them to stop their broadcasts but this has
been ignored, so Batam police must immediately act to seal their
offices and cut their broadcasts, about which our neighbors have
complained," said the ministry of telecommunication's department
of frequency regulations head Woro Indah Widyastuti on Friday.

Batam TV and Radio Hang FM were both launched by Batam's mayor
Nyat Kadir on January 18 2003.

Woro said that neither the mayor nor the governor had the
authority to issue the broadcasting permits. -- Antara
