Batam PPA UPTD Provides Psychological Assessment for Two Children Involved in Terrorism Network
Batam (ANTARA) - The Regional Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) for Women’s and Children’s Protection (PPA) in Batam City, Riau Islands (Kepri), provided psychological assessments and counselling for two children indicated to be involved in a terrorism network in April 2026.
Acting Head of UPTD PPA Batam City, Suratin, stated that his unit only handles psychological assessments and counselling based on referrals from law enforcement agencies.
“It was a finding from Densus 88 and referred to us for psychological assessment and counselling,” said Suratin when contacted in Batam on Thursday.
For information, Densus 88 is a special unit of the Indonesian National Police tasked with countering terrorism crimes.
According to him, the two children were not placed in a safe house and have been returned to their respective families, but remain under special supervision from Densus 88 Antiteror.
When asked about the mental condition and psychological findings regarding the two children, Suratin declined to provide further details because the handling was conducted confidentially. “We must keep silent on that,” he said.
On the same occasion, he stated that the total cases of violence against children in April 2026 reached 17 cases. “For child violence cases, there are a total of 17 cases with various forms of violence,” said Suratin.
He detailed that the cases consisted of one physical violence case, one psychological case, six rape cases, six indecent assault cases, one Human Trafficking Crime (TPPO) case, and the two terrorism network child cases.
“If KGBO, that’s online gender-based violence, where the victim is asked to show their genitals via video call,” he said.
During 2026, the month with the highest number of violence victims was January, with 30 cases consisting of two female victims and 28 child victims.
UPTD PPA Batam continues to provide assistance to victims of violence against women and children through assessment services, psychological counselling, and cross-agency coordination to ensure optimal protection for victims.
