Batam Manpower Office Opens 20 Certified Training Courses for 657 Jobseekers
Batam (ANTARA) — The Batam City Manpower Office in the Riau Islands has opened 20 competency-based training courses leading to certification for 657 jobseekers and residents who have never worked and hold Batam identity cards.
Batam City Manpower Office head Yudi Suprapto said the programme was intended for residents who are unemployed, with priority given to applicants who had never previously taken part in training run by the office.
“The certified training is free, and participants may choose only one course,” Yudi said when contacted in Batam on Wednesday.
The 20 courses cover construction, welding, occupational safety and health (OSH), design, information technology, clothing, beauty and heavy equipment operation.
They include scaffolding, 5G SMAW welding, Korean-language training, garment sewing, OSH officer training, General OSH Expert training, junior graphic design, basic welding inspection, 3G FCAW welding, computer operation, AutoCAD, basic forklift operation, pattern sewing, OSH operator training, salon make-up, structural fitting, 3G/4G welding and rigging.
The forklift course has the largest intake, with 48 places, followed by salon make-up, with 45, Yudi said.
Registration opened on Wednesday, and by midday the office had received 2,584 applications—far above the available quota of 657 places. “This shows how enthusiastic the public is,” he said.
This is the second round of skills-based training to be offered in 2026. The first was held early in the year and funded through the original regional budget, with 82 competency units; the current programme is funded through the amended regional budget, he said.
Applicants register through a link provided by the Batam Manpower Office, while selection is conducted directly by the vocational training institutions (LPK) delivering the courses.
“The programme is being run in partnership with LPKs in Batam that meet the requirements of the Ministry of Manpower. They also have experts in each of the training fields,” he said.
Applicants for General OSH Expert, OSH officer and OSH operator training must have at least a diploma-level qualification or equivalent.
Applicants for 4G and 5G welding courses are preferably expected to have experience and to have completed basic welding training up to the 3G level.
The Batam Manpower Office urged residents to follow its official Instagram and TikTok accounts for updates on re-registration and the next stages.
