Batam Ensures Rice Surplus Ahead of Ramadan 2026
Medianesia, Batam – The Batam Food Security and Agriculture Agency (DKPP) has confirmed that rice supplies are in surplus ahead of Ramadan 2026. In addition to rice, sugar and cooking oil stocks have also been declared sufficient to meet public demand.
DKPP Batam Head Mardanis stated that based on the latest data, rice stocks stand at 10,249.14 tonnes, whilst consumption needs for Batam residents are estimated at 9,288.08 tonnes.
“Rice stocks are in a surplus position. Availability reaches 10,249.14 tonnes, higher than public demand,” said Mardanis recently.
With a margin of approximately 961 tonnes, the local government has reserves deemed adequate to anticipate near-term needs.
Beyond rice, the DKPP also confirmed that sugar and cooking oil supplies are in a secure state. However, the government continues to monitor price movements for a number of horticultural commodities. According to Mardanis, particular attention is being given to the prices of curly green chilli and bird’s eye chilli, which have experienced increases in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, Batam Mayor Amsakar Achmad stated that the food issue extends beyond mere availability to encompass regional resilience and self-sufficiency in the face of global dynamics. He emphasised the importance of long-term policies oriented towards strengthening the food and energy sectors, in line with directives from the President of the Republic of Indonesia.
According to the mayor, strengthening food and energy self-sufficiency forms the foundation for facing ever-evolving external challenges.
