Batam Education Office Opens Domicile-Based Registration for Primary and Junior High Schools in 2026

Batam (ANTARA) - The Batam City Education Office (Disdik) in the Riau Islands will open registration for the New Student Admission Selection (SPMB) via the domicile and parental mutation route for primary (SD) and junior high (SMP) schools from 17 to 23 June 2026. Head of Disdik Batam, Hendri Arulan, stated that participants who did not pass the previous stages still have the opportunity to join the selection through the domicile route, based on the address listed on their Family Card (KK). “If they were rejected through the achievement or affirmation routes, they can register again through the domicile route according to the provisions,” Hendri said on Wednesday. He explained that participants who previously chose a school outside their residential zone through the achievement route must now adjust their school choice based on their domicile zone when registering. “For example, if the KK address is in Bengkong, then registration must be done at a school within the Bengkong zone,” he said. According to Hendri, parents do not need to create a new account to participate in the next selection stage. “The account remains the same. The account created during the first registration will continue to be used by parents to enrol their child throughout the SPMB process,” he stated. The achievement and affirmation routes were closed with the announcement of results on Tuesday, 16 June 2026. The domicile and mutation route will be open from 17 to 23 June 2026 for SD and SMP levels, with results announced on 25 June 2026. To assist the public during the registration process, Disdik Batam has prepared service posts at all state schools and at the Disdik Batam office in the Gurindam Building. Hendri said these posts handle various issues that cannot be resolved at the school level, ranging from registration system consultations and zoning radius queries to other technical obstacles. “The public can come directly to the Gurindam Building to find solutions regarding registration techniques, how to register, as well as radius and other issues,” he said. At the SMP level, domicile selection is based on the distance between the prospective student’s residence and the target school. Meanwhile, at the SD level, selection is based on age. “For junior high, the selection is based on distance, while for primary school, it is based on the age of the prospective student, with the oldest child being prioritised,” Hendri added. He noted that if prospective students are not accommodated in state schools due to quota limitations, parents can choose private schools as an alternative. For underprivileged families registered in the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN) desil 1 to desil 5, the Batam City Government has prepared education fee subsidies through the Regional Budget (APBD). “If they are not accommodated in state schools and fall into the category of underprivileged families recorded in DTSEN desil 1 to 5, then private school fees will be subsidised, for both SD and SMP levels,” Hendri said.
