Batam Customs Posts Positive Performance, Revenue Rises 11.79%

The Batam Customs and Excise Main Service Office (KPU) recorded a positive performance in the first semester of 2026. As of mid-June 2026, state revenue collection reached Rp474.86 billion, marking an 11.79% increase compared to the same period last year. This realisation has already achieved 68.92% of the annual revenue target for the 2026 fiscal year. In addition to the revenue increase, Batam Customs strengthened its supervisory function by issuing 554 Notices of Enforcement (SBP) for various customs and excise violations.

Head of the Batam Customs Compliance Guidance and Information Service, Setiawan Rosyidi, stated on Friday (26/6) that the revenue increase was primarily supported by import duties amounting to Rp198.32 billion and export duties of Rp254.47 billion. Meanwhile, excise revenue reached Rp22.06 billion, or 41.30% of the annual target. To optimise revenue, Batam Customs undertook extra efforts such as collecting excise debt, recovering underpayments, and imposing administrative sanctions in the form of fines and interest. These measures generated an additional Rp2.56 billion in revenue. “This half-year achievement is proof that our supervision is increasingly stringent and adaptive to various modes of violation. In terms of revenue, we have met and even exceeded the first-semester target,” he said.

In the field of enforcement, Batam Customs seized more than 4.7 million cigarettes without excise stamps and 147.32 litres of beverages containing ethyl alcohol (MMEA). Supervision was also strengthened through Operation ASAP (Amankan Sumber Asal Penerimaan), which targeted the entire distribution chain of excisable goods, from upstream to downstream. Beyond excisable goods, officers foiled 18 cases of narcotics, psychotropic substances, and precursors (NPP) smuggling. Evidence seized included more than 3,100 grams of methamphetamine and 1,590 vape cartridges containing etomidate. According to Rosyidi, perpetrators used various methods to smuggle narcotics, including hiding them in modified clothing, strapping items to their bodies, and concealing them inside household appliances or in shipments through Temporary Storage Facilities (TPS).

Throughout the first half of 2026, Batam Customs also thwarted the smuggling of 231,130 clear lobster seed (BBL), confiscated 223 pieces of illegal gold at Batam Centre Port, and carried out 274 enforcement actions against the smuggling of used clothing (ballpress), with total evidence reaching 2,320 bales. Additionally, officers handled 15 cases of carrying cash exceeding Rp100 million without declaration, with a total value of Rp3.04 billion. In accordance with regulations, violators were subject to an administrative fine of 10%. He emphasised that the success in safeguarding state revenue while strengthening supervision was the result of synergy between Batam Customs and various agencies, including the Police, the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), and the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM). Evidence and suspects in criminal cases have been handed over to law enforcement officials for processing in accordance with applicable regulations.
