Batam Council urged to probe markup case

BATAM, Riau: Chairman of Batam's Indonesian Democratic Party
of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) Sahat Sihanturi has demanded that
the local legislative council set up a special committee to
investigate the alleged markup case in the council's building
project.

He said PDI Perjuangan had shown its resolve to deal with the
matter by removing its faction chairman in the council Edy
Santoso for his tardiness in handling the Rp 28 billion scam.

"We want transparency. Any of our members involved in the case
will be dealt with," Sahad said on Monday.

Local secretary-general of the National Mandate Party Yudi
Kurnaen said he had instructed his members to resign from the
council if they were implicated in the corruption case.

Head of the Batam Prosecutor's Office I Gede Sudiatmaja said
he found some irregularities in the tender process of the same
project.--JP
