Batam City Government Equips 2026 Tourism Ambassadors with Digital Promotion Strategies and Understanding of 15 Priority Programmes
Twenty finalists for the Batam City Tourism Ambassadors 2026 participated in the Quarantine or Training Centre for the selection of Encik and Puan Batam City Tourism Ambassadors 2026, held at Ayola Signature Ocarina Batam on Wednesday, 6 May 2026. On that occasion, the Head of the Communication and Informatics Office (Kominfo) of Batam City, Rudi Panjaitan, conveyed the importance of mastering promotion strategies as an effort to strengthen the regional tourism image.
As a speaker, Rudi stated that tourism ambassadors not only serve as regional icons but also as the spearhead of promotion capable of optimally utilising digital technology. According to him, the development of information technology demands that the younger generation, including tourism ambassadors, be adaptive and creative in conveying the regional potential.
“Tourism ambassadors must be able to become good communicators, especially in the digital space. They must understand how to utilise social media and digital platforms to introduce Batam widely,” he said.
He explained that current tourism promotion strategies no longer rely solely on conventional methods but must be supported by creative, attractive, and informative content. Such content, he said, must be able to depict the richness of culture, tourist destinations, and the creative economy potential possessed by Batam.
In addition, Rudi also reminded the importance of maintaining ethics in digital media. Tourism ambassadors are expected to serve as examples in disseminating positive, accurate information that does not cause misunderstandings in society.
“Digital literacy is very important. Do not spread untrue information. Tourism ambassadors must become credible information agents,” he stated.
Through this activity, he hopes that the participants can enhance their capacities, not only in terms of tourism knowledge but also communication skills, utilisation of digital technology, and information on the macroeconomic conditions of Batam City.
The equipping also includes understanding the 15 priority programmes of Batam City Mayor Amsakar Achmad and Deputy Mayor Claudia Chandra, so that the ambassadors can become information agents aligned with the city’s development direction.
The 15 priority programmes of the Batam City Government include optimising the provision of clean water, flood management, providing free medical services and BPJS Employment for vulnerable workers, interest-free loans up to Rp 20 million for MSMEs, provision of free school uniforms for primary and secondary school students, and assistance for the elderly. In addition, the programmes also cover workforce training and creative industry development, scholarships for outstanding university students and pupils, development of integrated public transportation such as BRT and LRT, and the construction of ring roads.
Furthermore, the Batam City Government also prioritises the development of community arts and culture centres, management of staple goods stocks, environmentally friendly waste management, construction of schools and new classrooms, as well as increasing investment and developing MICE destinations to encourage regional economic growth. “Tourism ambassadors must also understand and know the programmes being promoted, especially these 15 priority programmes,” said Rudi.
He stated that the Quarantine for Batam City Encik and Puan Tourism Ambassadors 2026 is one of the important stages in the selection process, aimed at equipping participants with various skills and insights before entering the final assessment stage. “With this equipping, it is hoped that the finalists can become representations of Batam’s young generation that are intelligent, characterful, and ready to contribute to advancing the regional tourism sector,” he said.
