Batam asked to eliminate gambling
BATAM, Riau: Local Muslim preachers strongly urged the Batam
municipal administration to close down all gambling and
prostitution houses that have been allowed to grow unchecked.
Chairman of the association of Young Muslim Preachers,
Iskandar Zulkarnaen, said his association has delivered its
protest note to the municipal administration to take actions
against all gambling activities and prostitution on the island.
"All illegal activities, especially gambling and prostitution,
must be prohibited to prevent them from affecting the young
generation on the island," he said, adding that the municipal
administration had not handled the issue seriously.
He cited many star-rated hotels on the island that offered
prostitutes from China. --Antara
