Batam adds 300 MW electricity supply to support investment growth
The availability of reliable electricity is one of the main factors in driving investment growth and regional development.
Batam, Riau Islands (ANTARA) - The city of Batam in the Riau Islands is adding electricity supply capacity totalling 300 megawatts (MW) through the Batam 3 and Batam 4 Gas and Steam Power Plant (PLTGU) projects to support investment growth in the city.
The Batam municipal government has welcomed the additional electricity supply capacity.
“The availability of reliable electricity is one of the main factors in driving investment growth and regional development. Energy demand will continue to rise in line with the rapid development of industry in Batam,” said Batam City Regional Secretary Firmansyah in an official statement received in Batam on Friday.
He made the remarks at the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PJBTL) for the Batam 3 and Batam 4 PLTGU plants, each with a capacity of 150 MW, at the PLN Batam corporate office on Thursday (16 July).
The agreement was signed by the President Director of Dalle Energy Batam, Imron Gazali, and the President Director of PLN Batam, Kwin Fo, and witnessed directly by the Swedish Ambassador to Indonesia, Daniel Blockert.
Firmansyah said the additional 300 MW of electricity capacity would strengthen Batam’s development.
“This additional electricity supply will further boost investor confidence to invest their capital in Batam. The reliability of electricity and water supply is an important advantage Batam holds in supporting the investment climate,” he said.
“The government continues to work to attract investment, including for the development of the data centre area at Nongsa Digital Park,” he added.
Meanwhile, PLN Batam President Director Kwin Fo said Batam is currently in a highly strategic position, with growth in the industrial sector, investment, digital zones and data centres, as well as rising electricity demand among the public.
According to him, PLN Batam continues to strengthen the electricity system, from generation and transmission to distribution, as well as improving the quality of service to customers.
“The signing of this power purchase agreement is a strategic step to strengthen the reliability of Batam’s electricity system. It is also part of PLN Batam’s commitment to supporting economic growth and creating a conducive investment climate,” said Kwin Fo.
He added that synergy between energy providers, industry players, the government and strategic partners is key to ensuring that future energy needs can be met reliably, efficiently and sustainably.
With the additional 300 MW of electricity capacity, Batam is expected to be better prepared to accommodate investment growth, strengthen its industrial zones and support the development of the digital economy, which is one of the city’s leading sectors.
