The momentum of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia serves as both a reflection and a reaffirmation of the commitment of the Batam Concession Agency (BP Batam) to strengthening Batam’s role as one of the locomotives of national economic growth.

Under the leadership of Head of BP Batam Amsakar Achmad and Deputy Head of BP Batam Li Claudia Chandra, efforts to enhance Batam’s competitiveness continue to be directed towards building a productive investment ecosystem, increasing economic activity, strengthening logistics connectivity, and providing ease and certainty of services for the business community.

These achievements are reflected in Batam’s investment realisation for the first half of 2026, which reached Rp29.89 trillion, an increase of 62.75% year-on-year compared with the first half of 2025 figure of Rp18.37 trillion. This represents an absolute increase of Rp11.52 trillion.

This growth demonstrates that business confidence in Batam continues to strengthen. The number of projects increased from 11,915 projects in the first half of 2025 to 15,826 projects in the first half of 2026, a growth of 32.82%.

INVESTMENT GROWS, JOB OPPORTUNITIES OPEN UP

The growth in investment has also had an impact on labour absorption. The number of recorded workers increased from 30,979 people in the first half of 2025 to 40,943 people in the first half of 2026. This means an addition of approximately 9,964 workers, with growth reaching 32.16%. This achievement is an indicator that investment into Batam is increasingly connected to real economic activity.

An increase is also visible in the average investment value per project, from Rp1.54 billion per project in the first half of 2025 to Rp1.89 billion per project in the first half of 2026, an increase of 22.53%. This indicates a rise in investment per project in Batam.

In the first half of 2026, the five sectors with the largest investment values were other services at Rp6.09 trillion; the machinery, electronics, medical instruments, electrical equipment, precision, optical and watch industry at Rp6.07 trillion; the chemical and pharmaceutical industry at Rp3.97 trillion; housing, industrial estates and offices at Rp3.52 trillion; and transport, warehousing and telecommunications at Rp2.55 trillion.

STRENGTHENING PORTS AND LOGISTICS CHAINS

The strengthening of the Batu Ampar Port Container Terminal is an important part of efforts to increase the capacity and efficiency of Batam’s logistics services. Infrastructure modernisation, service optimisation and the use of technology are directed at smoothing the flow of goods and supporting industrial needs.

For an investment area such as Batam, logistics connectivity is an important part of competitiveness. Better infrastructure will support the smooth running of supply chains, distribution efficiency and the enhancement of Batam’s attractiveness as an industrial and trade centre connected to regional and global markets.

EASE OF DOING BUSINESS AS PART OF COMPETITIVENESS

Investment growth must also be accompanied by public services capable of providing certainty and convenience to business actors. BP Batam continues to encourage the strengthening of licensing services, the digitalisation of services and the resolution of various investment obstacles through cross-sector coordination. The principle is that the business world needs processes that are fast, certain, transparent and integrated.

For BP Batam, ease of doing business is not merely an administrative matter, but part of a strategy to build investor confidence and maintain the sustainability of investment in Batam.

FROM BATAM FOR A GOLDEN INDONESIA

These various achievements are part of Batam’s journey in strengthening its contribution to the national economy. Investment growth of 62.75%, an increase in the number of projects of 32.82%, growth in projects entering the production phase of 52.32%, and an increase in employment of 32.16% show that Batam’s economic activity continues to move positively.

PORT PERFORMANCE STRENGTHENS, BATAM’S CONNECTIVITY CONTINUES TO MOVE

Batam’s investment growth is also in line with increasing port activity. Throughout January–June 2026, the performance of a number of key port indicators showed a positive trend, confirming the strengthening role of Batam as a hub for trade, logistics and regional connectivity.

At Batu Ampar Port, container volume grew significantly. Overall, container volume at Batam Port reached 395,424 TEUs, an increase of 10% compared with the same period in 2025.

Specifically at the Batu Ampar Container Terminal, container volume reached 273,793 TEUs, an increase of 17% compared with January–June 2025.

PASSENGER MOBILITY ALSO INCREASES

Positive growth is also visible in the passenger port sector. Throughout January–June 2026, the number of domestic passengers arriving and departing reached 2,295,165 people, an increase of 9% compared with 2,105,981 people in the same period in 2025.

At the international terminal, the number of passengers was 2,671,134 people, growing 4% from 2,557,575 people. Overall, the number of domestic and international passengers reached 4,966,299 people, an increase of 6%.

Specifically for international routes, passenger mobility on the Singapore route reached 1,843,454 people, an increase of 3%, while the Malaysia route reached 827,680 people, growing 8% compared with the January–June 2025 period.

The meeting was attended directly by Head of BP Batam Amsakar Achmad, Deputy Head Li Claudia Chandra, Member/Deputy for Investment Fary Djemy Francis, and Member/Deputy for Infrastructure Mouris Limanto.

The President emphasised that Batam must become a model for the implementation of the national agenda through downstreaming, industrialisation, deregulation, investment acceleration and logistics efficiency.

One of the President’s main directives is the modernisation of ports and the plan to develop the Batam International Port as a national logistics hub integrated with industrial estates, data centres, high-tech manufacturing and global shipping networks. “Through these various reforms, BP Batam is targeting Batam to become a more productive, well-organised and competitive area,” said Amsakar.

Meanwhile, Li Claudia Chandra explained that BP Batam continues to strengthen governance through the digitalisation of the Land Management System (LMS) to improve transparency, accountability and ease of land services.
