Basuki Swears In 555 IKN Civil Servants, Stresses Competence and Integrity
A total of 555 first-wave candidate civil servants (CPNS) in Nusantara Capital City (IKN) have been inaugurated as civil servants (PNS). The figure comprises 494 employees in the first appointment to functional positions and 6 employees in the context of promotion and transfer of functional positions. The Swearing-In and Appointment of Civil Servants to Functional Positions took place at Taman Kusuma Bangsa, the Central Government Core Area (KIPP) of IKN, on Monday (08/06/2026). Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (IKN) Basuki Hadimuljono stressed four main characteristics that every IKN Authority official must possess: being strong because they are competent, brave because they have integrity, loyal to their profession, and innovative in their work. According to Basuki, the first characteristic is being strong, not in a physical sense, but strong because they possess adequate competence in their respective fields. ‘As Authority officials, first, they must be strong. Not strong in terms of muscle, but strong in competence, because they must be competent in their respective fields. If they are not competent, they will not be strong. Going forward, building IKN is not easy. There will certainly be many challenges. Not just building edifices, but also building community life which will definitely have challenges that are not light,’ said Basuki. The second characteristic is courage, which is born of integrity. Basuki reminded the officials that the oath of office they took is a moral and spiritual commitment that must be upheld throughout their service. ‘As Otorita civil servants, you must be brave. Not physically brave, but brave because you have integrity,’ he asserted. The third characteristic is professional loyalty. Basuki stressed that a civil servant’s loyalty must be given to the profession, duties, and the mandate they carry, not to a specific individual. ‘Not loyal to an individual or leader, but loyal to their respective professions professionally. So, professional loyalty. You must have professional loyalty,’ Basuki stated. Meanwhile, the fourth characteristic is the ability to improvise and innovate. According to Basuki, the development of IKN requires an apparatus capable of generating new ideas and not getting trapped in routine working methods. ‘You must have an artistic spirit. Develop your artistic spirit. Not just singing, not just exercising, but an artistic spirit will make our character brave enough to improvise and innovate,’ said Basuki. On this occasion, Basuki reminded the attendees that being a civil servant is not merely a profession, but a mandate that must be carried out with full responsibility. He asked the newly inaugurated employees to treat every task and job as a form of service and worship. ‘Today, this afternoon, we jointly take the oath and pledge as civil servants. Witnessed by the noble clergymen, and I believe this afternoon God Almighty, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, is also present to witness the taking of your oaths.’ He asserted that the oath spoken is not only a personal commitment or witnessed by the attendees present at the inauguration, but is also a moral and spiritual accountability before God Almighty. ‘So do not mess around with that oath. Your oath is not only for yourselves, not only heard by the attendees present today, but is also heard by Allah SWT, God Almighty, including His angels,’ Basuki asserted.
