Basuki Says No Plans Yet for Prabowo to Hold 17 August Ceremony in Nusantara

Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority Head Basuki Hadimuljono has stressed that there are currently no plans for President Prabowo Subianto to hold the 17 August ceremony in IKN. “Not yet, not yet, not yet. There are no instructions yet,” Basuki said at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, 11 June 2026. On the other hand, the IKN Authority will prepare the 17 August ceremony with a modest concept. Basuki said the IKN Authority would discuss the concept for implementing the ceremony. However, his side has not yet received direction regarding the plan for the president and ministers to hold the ceremony in IKN. “No, I think not yet. We are just about to have a meeting about it, but we simply want it to be modest,” he revealed. Regarding the potential involvement of regional governments in Kalimantan, similar to previous years’ Independence Day commemorations, Basuki said the matter was still under consideration. “Perhaps, but we are still thinking about it because coincidentally there is SMA Taruna Nusantara there, we also want to involve them for optimisation,” Basuki said. Previously, Basuki requested an additional budget of Rp15.5 trillion for 2027. The proposed budget increase will be used for IKN development targets by 2028. The proposal was conveyed by Basuki during a working meeting with Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, 11 June 2026. He explained the OIKN budget requirement for 2027 is Rp22.2 trillion. “Rp6.7 trillion has been allocated in the indicative ceiling, so there is still an additional budget requirement of Rp15.5 trillion,” Basuki said. He explained the additional budget would be used for the second batch of IKN development for the years 2025, 2026, 2027 amounting to Rp7.4 trillion and the third batch of development amounting to Rp8 trillion for a multi-year contract spanning 2026-2028.
