Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (IKN), Basuki Hadimuljono, has revealed the philosophy of the parliament building to be constructed in IKN. Basuki stated that the philosophy of the building was provided directly by President Prabowo Subianto. “As for the philosophy of the building, for President Prabowo, managing the state must be firm, straight, and authoritative. That is the philosophy of the MPR building, because from there major state decisions will be issued,” Basuki explained at the parliament building construction site in IKN, East Kalimantan, on Monday (20/4/2026). “So he, why change it, previously it was somewhat curved, so managing the state must be straight, firm, grand, strong. That is depicted in the current design resulting from our study,” he added. MPR Chairman’s Appreciation Meanwhile, MPR RI Chairman Ahmad Muzani stated that the parliament building design in IKN already depicts Indonesian-ness. He assessed that the design decided by Basuki and approved by President Prabowo Subianto is extraordinary. “I think that philosophy depicts Indonesian-ness, so what has been decided by Mr Basuki and received direct approval from the President is something extraordinary,” Muzani remarked. Muzani highlighted the location of the parliament building, flanked by the Palace and the judicial building. Muzani expressed delight with that location. “A very good, prime location. The contour is very high. To the left is the Palace, to the right is the Judiciary, to the left is the Legislature,” Muzani explained. “And this place I think is very good. Its position is high, higher than the average government buildings, and very good surrounded by extraordinary hills,” Muzani said. The location of the building flanked by two major structures is deemed to make it appear grand. He hopes this building’s location will also make parliament members more comfortable in the future. “So that Insyaallah it will make this building feel grand, feel to depict solid, intact Indonesian-ness, and will make DPR, DPD members who are also MPR members even more enthusiastic about future Indonesian matters that are more productive,” Muzani stated. Ensure Legislature Will Move to IKN Muzani also conveyed that the purpose of his direct visit to the progress of the parliament building construction in IKN is to gauge the timeline for the process of moving parliament members to IKN. He said that with this positive progress, parliament members are assured to move to IKN once all construction processes are completed. “Today we were surprised by the information conveyed by the Head of the Authority, Mr Basuki, that the approval for the parliament building, MPR, DPR, and DPD, has received approval from the President. Including approval for the Judicial building. What does that mean? Insyaallah we will still move to IKN. Waiting for the MPR building to be completed, Mr Basuki,” Muzani clarified. Muzani did not deny the many public questions about whether parliament will move to IKN or not. Through his visit today, he no longer doubts in stating that the relocation of parliament members to IKN is a certainty. “This is actually the purpose of our arrival all together with the MPR leaders, to ensure when we will move, where we will move, and today we get the certainty that we will move with a grander building,” Muzani explained. “This is important because discussions in society, on social media, even at the political level, often become topics. The political decision that we will move has been made, because the law on IKN has been decided by us. But when we will move is the issue. And today we came to ensure when we will move and we are even more convinced that the certainty of the move is clearer,” he added. With the start of the parliament building construction in IKN, according to him, it has become the answer to the questions arising in the public. He hopes the construction progress can run smoothly. “Now we just wait for the developments of its construction. We all pray that hopefully all initiatives and plans that have been approved by the President can go smoothly, Amin. And of course the commander is Mr Basuki,” he said.
